The Bio-Medical Library has both paper- and database-based resources on evidence-based health care. It also provides services aimed at enhancing the skills required in the practice of evidence-based health care. Books and Journals. The Bio-Medical Library has the latest publications on evidence-based health care (EBHC) . The publications include books, journals, and special editions. Subjects range from introduction to EBHC, consulting   manuals on EBHC, applications of EBHC in specific fields such as evidence-based cardiology, evidence-based family medicine, evidence-based obstetrics and gynecology, and evidence-based teaching: current research in nursing education.  

 

Classes. The Bio-Medical Library offers classes on internet and database searching. Classes are for U Minnesota students, staff and faculty. In addition to regularly scheduled classes, library staff offer individual consultations or presentations to groups on a variety of topics such as how to enhance your internet skills, how to keep up with the latest in the health sciences literature, and how to find health and vital statistics.

 

Databases. The Bio-Medical Library provides access to health sciences indexes and other resources, including: Bioethicsline, BIOSIS/Biological Abstracts, CancerLIT, CINAHL (Nursing and Allied Health), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Current Contents, HaPI (Health and Psychological Instruments), HealthSTAR, IPA (International Pharmaceutical Abstracts), MEDLINE, Full Text: ACP Best Evidence and Full Text: Collections (60 full text journals). The library provides group and personal classes and hand-on exercises on browsing and searching these databases.

 

EBHC Workshop. Four workshops will be offered on how to locate and effectively use sources of authoritative health-related information useful in the practice of evidence-based health care. Each workshop will consist of two parts: a lecture/demonstration of resources followed by a computer hands-on session. You may choose to attend either one or both parts of a workshop. All sessions will be held the week of November 7, 2000.
